Welcome to the First United Methodist Church of Athens, Alabama. Since 1818, this church has been in ministry in the name of Jesus Christ to the community in and around Athens. We began as part of a four church circuit formed by the Tennessee Annual Conference even prior to the time Alabama was admitted as a state. Of these four churches, this church is the only one still in existence.
