Boy Scout Troop 240, sponsored by First United Methodist Church of Athens, has a long and rich tradition of Scouting. Troop 240 has been active in Athens and at FUMC for more than sixty years and has produced almost 100 Eagle Scouts during that time.
Currently, Troop 240 is home to about 20 Scouts participating in a wide and varied range of activities. We participate annually in Summer Camp at Camp Comer Scout Reservation in Mentone, Alabama, various BSA Camporees and camping opportunities, Merit Badge and Rank Advancement courses, Troop campouts and activities along with many other projects. These young men are in various stages of advancement through Boy Scouts and share the goal of furthering the tradition of achieving the esteemed Eagle Scout award. Troop 240 proudly “Does a Good Turn” with the annual Hospice of Limestone County Chili Challenge and participates in the Veteran’s Day Parade.
The Scoutmaster is Allen Sandlin. Other adults involved include David McLin, David Toney, Joe McDonald, and Mike Lawson, in addition to an active and involved parent base.
